Munsiyari is a hill station located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. At an elevation of 2200 m, this place is known to be the starting point for various treks into the interior of the great Himalayan mountain range. Munsiyari refers to ?a place with snow?. It is a hub of mountaineers, tourists and nature lovers. Notable areas of interest here include Majestic Peak of Panchchuli, Birthi Falls, Maheshwari Kund, Betulidhar, Thamari Kund and Darkot. Panchchuli peak is visible from all points of this town providing a close view of this prominent cluster of five peaks. The Maheshwari Kund locally called Mehsar Kund is also a major tourist attraction. According to legends a Yaksha used to live in a small lake. He fell in love with the Sarpanch?s daughter. The sarpanch was furious and with the help of others dried up the lake to avenge the Yaksha. The Yaksha cursed the village soon after and Munsiyari suffered from drought for a long time until the people came to him and apologized. This practice continues even today as a ritual. Maheshwari Kund is just a few kilometers distance from Munsiyari. The breathtaking view of nature from this spot is something you will definitely love to witness.
